A customer in South America recently undertook a coal exploration monitoring well sampling project involving a legacy well constructed around 2008. With a depth of approximately 1,000 meters and years of inactivity, the well posed significant operational challenges. Direct pump-based well cleaning and sampling carried high risks due to unknown downhole conditions, potential obstructions, and uncertainty around the casing and screen integrity.
To reduce these risks, the client initially purchased a low-cost downhole camera online for more than $ 1,000. However, once deployed on site, the solution did not meet practical field requirements. The video quality was unclear, image transmission was unstable, and recordings could not be stored. Given the long-term accumulation of scale and wall deposits inside the well, visual identification of screen sections became extremely difficult. Experts were required to be physically present on site to view the live feed, which remained blurry and provided limited reference value. As a result, locating the screen intervals was time-consuming and inefficient.
Through an industry referral, the client contacted us and decided to deploy our 1,000-meter downhole camera system. The equipment provided stable real-time video with synchronized recording, allowing the technical team to clearly observe downhole structures, casing conditions, and blockage distribution. High-definition footage could be transmitted and stored, enabling off-site experts to review the data and support decision-making without being present at the wellhead.
With reliable visual information, the client was able to accurately identify the screen sections and assess the internal condition of the monitoring well before proceeding with sampling operations. This significantly reduced operational uncertainty and improved overall project efficiency.
The feedback from the customer highlighted the importance of dependable downhole inspection tools when working with deep, aging wells, particularly in exploration and monitoring projects where data accuracy and operational safety are critical. We appreciate the customer's trust and cooperation, and we remain committed to providing reliable downhole inspection solutions that support safer and more informed field operations.
