Product Description

The UltraEM Z5 Magnetotelluric Equipment integrates wide-band MT technology with modern electronics-including stochastic signal processing, FPGA-based logic, high-speed A/D acquisition, and an embedded real-time operating system. Designed to cover HMT, AMT, BMT, and MT in a single platform, it supports structured surveys ranging from 2D and 3D imaging to 4D continuous monitoring through fixed and mobile stations.

Rancheng Machinery engineered the system to deliver reliable synchronization, achieving timing accuracy better than 30 ns through GNSS. When satellite signals are interrupted, a temperature-controlled internal clock maintains stable timing, ensuring continuity in long-term deployments.

Compared with Phoenix Geophysics' MTU-5A/MTU-5P systems, the UltraEM Z5 provides capabilities not available in the MTU-5 series-most notably real-time remote operation, station status monitoring, and field control across dispersed arrays. These functions streamline large-scale MT projects and reduce on-site manpower requirements.

The system also allows expansion to CSAMT, TEM, IP, and seismic recording, giving research teams a multi-method platform for structural studies, resource assessment, and continuous geophysical monitoring. With scalable functions and long-term usability, the UltraEM Z5 Magnetotelluric Equipment offers survey teams a practical instrument that can support evolving exploration tasks.

Key Features

Wide-Band Magnetotelluric Coverage

The UltraEM Z5 Magnetotelluric Equipment spans 100 kHz to 0.0001 Hz, supporting HMT, AMT, long-period MT, and full-band MT measurements. It enables surveys from near-surface layers to mantle depths with one integrated system.

Natural-Source and Controlled-Source Modes

The system supports MT/AMT as well as CSAMT, IP, and TEM. It can additionally record microtremor and conventional seismic data, providing a multi-method platform for diverse field conditions.

Tensor and Scalar Observation

Both scalar measurements for rapid reconnaissance and tensor measurements for detailed 2D/3D geological imaging are supported, offering flexible workflows for different survey stages.

Real-Time On-Site Imaging

With an embedded real-time OS and parallel hardware processor, the Z5 performs real-time calculation of power spectra, apparent resistivity, phase, and coherency. Field teams can instantly view resistivity and phase sections during acquisition.

High-Efficiency Multi-Sampling Recording

The system uses 24 kHz and 2400 Hz decimation channels along with 150 Hz and 15 Hz continuous channels, enabling efficient EMAP-style continuous profiling and complete wide-band signal capture.

Full-Spectrum Data Integrity

Covering 0.0001–10,000 Hz, the UltraEM Z5 acquires stable, continuous data across the entire frequency band, reducing gaps and improving resolution for deep and shallow structures alike.

Advantages

One Instrument for Multiple Survey Tasks

Customers can conduct shallow engineering exploration, deep-crust investigations, resource assessments, and controlled-source surveys without switching equipment.

More Reliable Field Decision-Making

Real-time imaging helps crews evaluate data quality immediately, detect noise, adjust station layout, and avoid costly re-measurements.

Stable Data Capture Under Varied Field Conditions

The wide-band design and parallel sampling architecture help maintain consistent resistivity and phase results, even when background noise or geological complexity is present.

Lower Operational and Training Costs

Integrating multiple electromagnetic methods into one Magnetotelluric Equipment platform reduces the need for separate AMT, MT, and CSAMT systems and simplifies field training.

Scalable for Long-Term Monitoring and Large Arrays

The system's frequency range, real-time processing ability, and compatibility with seismic and controlled-source modes make it suitable for long-term monitoring, array deployments, and evolving survey programs.

Enhanced Geophysical Interpretation Quality

Full-spectrum coverage improves inversion stability, producing more continuous and interpretable electrical structure models for clients.
